Generate more quality traffic

Getting good quality traffic?
Starting up a web site and beginning your on line business is one thing. Driving traffic to your web site is another. Many merchants have a good web site but no traffic or quality traffic. That is why it is essential to use good keywords in the html-code of your pages and to submit your web site to the search engines. If you do not submit your web site to the search engines, you will not be found.
Of course, you have your business card with your URL on it which you give away to prospects and you have listed your URL in your company letter. Does this attract new customers to your web site? Maybe a few. But there could be hundreds, even thousands of people out there who don't know your site and use the search engines to find the one web site that can help them. In fact, 80% of Internet users are using search engines to find what they are looking for. This could be your site!
How does it work?
When fighting for that number one position in the most popular search engines, visible site content (the words, not the images) is very important. Search engines use crawlers or spiders to search for web sites with content. This is an automated process that is used to see if the meta tags, used in the html-code, are in compliance with the content and text of the web site. The higher the compliance, the higher the ranking will be for the particular keyword(s) used.
It is getting increasingly difficult to convince the search engines that a page is something it obviously isn't! It is no use to make viagra a keyword when you are selling cars, just to get more visitors to your web site. You will be penalized by the search engines and the people that will visit your site are not interested in your cars.
So just concentrate on your site's content. In each page stick to a few keywords that are relevant to the topic of it. Repeat these keywords in your content.
It could be worth wile to implement keywords in the alt-tags of your images so search engines can understand what your images are about. An image tag could look like this:
<img src="image.gif" width="150" height="15" alt=" This description will show while loading the image" title="This description will show during a mouse-over event" border="0">
Meta tags
<title>Your web site title</title>
<meta NAME="Description" CONTENT="Your web site description">
<meta NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="keyword1,keyword2,keyword3">
It is important to use keywords that match with the content of your site. First of all, try to use keywords that your customers will probably use to find you. Secondly, do not use general keywords.
I.e. If you sell flowers, it is no use to have 'flowers' as a keyword, as there are already thousands of companies that have this as a keyword. The top places in the search engines have already been sold to other companies. Instead of using flowers you could use 'flower delivery service', 'flowers on line' or even mention all the kinds of flowers that you sell, as long as it matches with the content of your site of course. Be careful not to use too many keywords.
The meta tags would look like this now:
<title>AAA Flowers: worldwide flower delivery service. Buy your flowers on line. We have roses, tulips, etc.</title>
<meta NAME="Description" CONTENT="AAA Flowers offers worldwide flower delivery service. You can buy your flowers online from anywhere in the world. You can choose roses, tulips,
etc. ">
<meta NAME=Keywords" CONTENT=" flower delivery service, buy your flowers on line, flowers on line, roses, tulips, etc">
Once you have chosen your keywords and made your meta tags, you need to implement these into the html-code of your pages. Always put these directly between the <head> and </head> of your html-code.
Submitting your website
After that, submit your site to the search engines. This is a very time consuming task. There are many sites that offer you to submit your site to several search engines for free. Unfortunately, you need a lot of these submission sites to really get indexed at the most popular search engines.
Much better way to do it, is to buy software, which can do it automatically for you. There are several programs available, but our recommendation is Web Position. We have used the program ourselves and we got lots of #1 results, which brought us a lot of traffic and new sign ups. They offer you a 30 day trial, so if you do not like it, you don't buy it. The program is very easy to use and their support is really amazing.
Another way to do it is by hiring a professional company to do all of this for you.
Keep your traffic
Once you get the traffic, try to keep them on your web site! Web site design and usability heavily influence consumer purchase decisions. A little checklist:
  • Your start page is your 'front door' and is your web site's most important element. Simplicity and good organization are very important here. People have to navigate easily on your site.
  • Work form the top down: the most relevant things should appear at the top of each page.
  • Hit your target, make your web site appeal to the desired audience.
  • Build credibility by being consistent in your approach.
  • Make sure your web site is working with all resolutions, design with monitors in mind. Also consider the different browsers people use.
  • Do not use too many or large images and music; this will slow down your web site.
  • Test your own web site to make sure there are no 'broken links'.
